Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)

What are you planning to do after high school? For students with disabilities and their families, this can be a very overwhelming subject. Our pre-employment transition services help prepare students for the exciting transition from school life into adulthood and the world of work.

What We Do

Funded by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and the Commission For the Blind (CFB) through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, our program provides Pre-ETS to students ages 14-22 with disabilities in public schools across the state. A total of 26 Vocational Transition Specialists (VTS)s are positioned strategically throughout NM (with a focus on the rural, underserved areas) delivering these services. Three Vocational Transition Coordinators (VTC)s supervise the initiative. Our statewide success has been possible through a partnership with all the NM Regional Education Cooperatives (REC)s to hire and supervise these positions. The CREC also encourages students to apply for DVR’s and CFB’s valuable services. We partner closely with DVR, CFB, public schools, and other community resources across the state who are also delivering Pre-ETS.

How We Help

VTSs work directly with their assigned school districts to develop a specialized plan for service tailored to the needs of the school and students. Our VTSs are trained to be flexible. The below services are offered to schools and can be delivered as classroom presentations, group activities, discussions, and one-on-one coaching as appropriate.

  • Job Exploration Counseling
  • Self-Advocacy Training
  • Higher Learning Counseling (Post-Secondary Education)
  • Work Readiness Training
  • Work-Based Learning Experiences
  • Referrals to DVR, CFB, and other community resources
